We had planned to kick off on 4/12/21 in Dunbar Park -however Mr Perrottet’s date change for removing restrictions for unvaccinated from 1/12 to 15/12/21 would have required us to perimeter fence the Park , to run our event.
So we are rolling with the flow and ducking and weaving around the covid restrictions and have postponed our Dunbar Park Community Celebration Day to Saturday 19/3/2022.
This will give more time for planning and also we hope the 4 local schools will be able to have greater participation in our events by March 2022. So stay tuned -there is much more….
Some 30 odd dedicated volunteers have been beavering away in the background since Roger Treagus called our 1st meeting of the Avalon Beach Centenary Committee, way back in June , pre lockdown.
We have been planning events and activities to Celebrate both our Indigenous and Non Indigenous History and Culture, to showcase our local Artists, Musicians, Performers and Creatives, our wonderful volunteer Community Clubs and Support Groups, our Local Businesses and the wonderful natural environment we live in.
We are looking to roll out events from December 2021- December 2022.
Jennifer Hill of Avalon Art Gallery in collaboration with Cindy Goode our Centenary Arts Co-ordinator, have assembled a fabulous line up of 24 local Artists featuring a range of works from ceramic sculpture, wood and bronze sculpture, photography, print, collage and paintings inspired by Avalon Beach for our Centenary Art Exhibition from Saturday 4/12 to Sunday 19/12/21.
This is going to be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to find that Christmas Gift for someone special.
Sponsored by LJ Hooker Avalon Beach, Chambers Cellars Avalon Beach and facilitated by Avalon Cinema. more info to come…
On behalf of the Avalon Beach Centenary (Avalon Beach 100) committee we would like to invite you to showcase your cause or create an activity at the launch of a year-long series of events on 4 December 2021 at Dunbar Park (yes, it is also NBC election day).
There are a number of activities planned for the launch including:
Welcome to Country
Inaugural planting of the first of 100 native canopy trees which will eventually form a ‘Centenary Canopy’ throughout Avalon Beach
Exhibitions of local historic photographs and art
Historic storytelling from special guests
Art and craft activities for kids
Showcase of local clubs and community groups
There will be no fees or charges* for participating on the day. You do not need a stall setup but we would suggest some sort of sun shade, a chair and some signage.(*Certain activities may require public liability insurance.)
We are a group of local volunteers aiming to enliven our community and generate a sense of ‘togetherness’ by celebrating the naming and establishment of the suburb of Avalon Beach 100 years ago. Avalon Bowling Club has agreed to support our efforts providing facilities and a governance framework.
We are all feeling grateful to live in such a wonderful location and hope you will join us to demonstrate the diversity of interests, hobbies, causes and activities available to locals, neighbours and visitors.
Some of you may already be planning events for next year or considering ideas so please reply and let us know or forward this email so others can sign up to our mailing list (note you can also unsubscribe below).
